Remi Ajani is a London based artist currently studying at the Slade school of fine art. Her work deals with colour and gesture and is connected to an understanding of self and identity. Through painting Remi is experimenting with being in a present dialogue with her own senses, her instincts, her physicality and how that transfers into the materiality of paint. Painting allows her to reconnect with her own body and explore her curiosity; this curiosity has expanded her practice beyond the confines of direct representation and figuration and into a world of abstraction. Painting becomes a plane of transformation, a flat surface that holds dimension, emotion and through mark making a multitude of meaning. Through painting in this way she explores her relationship to the interior and exterior world in relation to perception, reality, connection and disconnection. Painting becomes a way to affirm existence and reflect on perspective.
